We warmly invite you to the opening of the exhibition …or do you love your blinders? by Cornelia Herfurtner.
In her solo exhibition, the sculptor addresses mechanisms of looking away and suppression within our society. Her works draw on the legal concept of “passive Bewaffnung” [passive armament], which criminalises the carrying of everyday protective items at demonstrations, and reveal how state order directs perception and regulates self-protection in public space.
In installations composed of carved wooden reliefs, moulds, marquetry, dough impressions and stickers, Herfurtner combines traditional craft techniques with contemporary political questions. Motifs drawn from everyday life point to the shifting boundaries between private and public space and show how ordinary actions can take on political dimensions.
