Vernissage

Welcome and Introduction:
Janine Wolter, District Councilor for Education, Culture, and Sports, Neukölln
Yolanda Kaddu-Mulindwa, Director of Kommunale Galerien Neukölln

We cordially invite you to the opening of the exhibition …oder liebst du deine Scheuklappen? by Cornelia Herfurtner.

In her solo exhibition, the sculptor explores the mechanisms of looking away and turning a blind eye in our society. Her works address the legal concept of “passive arming,” which criminalizes the carrying of everyday protective items during demonstrations, and reveal how state authority directs perception and regulates self-protection in public spaces.
In installations featuring carved wooden reliefs, models, marquetry, dough impressions, and stickers, Herfurtner combines traditional craft techniques with current political issues. Motifs drawn from everyday life highlight how the boundaries between private and public spaces are shifting and how ordinary actions can take on political dimensions.
We look forward to the joint opening of the exhibition!
