Selma Laura Köran’s video game installation captivates viewers with its ironic interweaving of gaming elements and biting criticism of military and patriarchal power structures. It exaggerates the symbolism of war and power to the point of absurdity. By exaggerating the “fun factor,” the artist allows the participating viewers to be entertained and feel extremely uncomfortable at the same time. Particularly noteworthy here is the high-quality craftsmanship and sculptural implementation of the intricately modeled gaming world, which is reminiscent of early computer games. The multidimensionality of this critique of current world politics and the military-industrial complex is what makes this work so appealing.
