Introduction to Braille
with Silja Korn, a member of the General Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABSV)
Welcoming remarks by artist Cornelia Herfurtner.
As part of the exhibition …or do you love your blinders? […oder liebst du deine Scheuklappen?], the Galerie im Saalbau invites you to an introduction to Braille with Silja Korn (ABSV).
The event covers the basics of Braille and explores how blind people read, write, and use Braille in their daily lives. Silja Korn will share her own experiences and explain the structure of Braille in an easy-to-understand way. Visitors can try writing with a Braille machine themselves, write their names in Braille, and feel different materials. The introduction is complemented by Braille books, tactile writing samples, and small exercises that allow participants to experience Braille through the sense of touch.
Silja Korn, born in Berlin in 1966, is Germany’s first blind state-certified early childhood educator. She has been working in the field of early childhood education since 1989 and has been an advocate for inclusion and cultural participation for many years. In addition to her work as an educator, she is active as an artist, workshop leader, and speaker. In her work and events, she explores perception, blindness, and alternative forms of experience. She also participates in theater, dance, and art projects and founded the non-profit Silja Korn Foundation in 2017 to support blind and deafblind people.
The event will be held in German.
