Is silence the same as stillness and the absence of words, or is there more to the inaudible?
While loud voices in the everyday hubbub clamour to assert their place in the world, muted moments have a shadowy existence in general perception. Narrative Silence inverts the familiar pattern: the artists explore and reflect on the many meanings of silence—permanent, temporary, chosen, imposed, passive, or active.
What new points of reference—for yourself and the outside world—arise from the withdrawal of omnipresent acoustic and visual stimuli? The works are focused on internal viewpoints that are inherent in dialogue and meditation; letters and sentence fragments of word images, which condense into textures; omissions and cryptic signs that evoke individual interpretations.
