The lines from Britney Spears‘ song Toxic read like a hunt, telling of addiction and intoxication and providing insight into the existential dimension of her role as both seductress and addict.
Looking at the media portrayal of Britney Spears, it becomes clear how a young woman has been the victim of a misogynistic media system since her youth. An oppressive feeling echoes, evoked by the tragedy of the often transgressive reporting and a constant focus on the artist‘s sexuality.
Do you feel me now?, sings Spears defiantly and forms thus the symbolic figure at the center of the exhibition.
