Ina Wudtke – Pirate Jenny

Ina Wudtke takes the 100th anniversary of the German November Revolution as an opportunity to focus on artistic methods of working-class culture. She pays particular attention to working-class writers of the Weimar Republic and the Afro-American working class music culture of swing and blues. Ina Wudtke’s exploration begins with the joint work of Bertolt Brecht and Margarete Steffin. After meeting in a theatre class at the Marxist Workers’ School in Neukölln, they worked closely together - Steffin translated Brecht’s texts into “workers’ German”. Ina Wudtke also takes up actionist protests by workers against the housing shortage prevalent at the time and relates them performatively to today’s gentrification in Berlin.
