In his solo exhibition “A MAN OF MANY PARTS” at Galerie im Saalbau, Jota Kayodê Ramos explores issues of race and gender identity through performance, video, installation, photography and poetry. Through reflection, he creates an exhibition space to honestly portray the authenticity of the body as a BIPoC trans person, showing his experiences, struggles and triumphs. His work aims to create an anti-racist representation of sociality and marginalised identities, challenging existing social norms and promoting a more inclusive and sensitive understanding of race and gender.
The exhibition invites visitors to explore the multi-layered narratives and perspectives of a trans person and their transition. Each work in the exhibition is a powerful testament to the strength, beauty and complexity of BIPoC and trans experience, and provides a platform for the constructive expression of artistically developed agency.
Jota Kayodê Ramos aka Mandrake Mermaid Xtravaganza, is a co-founder of Workdatcxnt, a grassroots collective focused on transmasculine individuals, particularly BIPoC.
